Hood Venting

Hood Venting  involves the design, installation, and maintenance of commercial kitchen exhaust systems that capture heat, grease, smoke, and cooking odors — ensuring a safe, code-compliant, and comfortable environment in restaurants, cafeterias, hotels, hospitals, and any facility with commercial cooking operations. This is a highly specialized and code-driven scope of work covering:
  • System Types – Type I hoods (grease and heat producing equipment), Type II hoods (heat and moisture only), exhaust-only systems, and makeup air units paired with exhaust fans
  • Hood Installation – Fabricating and hanging stainless steel or listed hood assemblies over cooking equipment at proper heights and overhangs per code requirements
  • Grease Duct Work – Installing heavy-gauge welded or listed grease duct systems with proper clearances to combustibles, access panels, and slope for grease drainage
  • Exhaust Fans – Rooftop upblast fans, inline exhaust fans, and utility sets designed specifically for grease-laden air and high-temperature applications
  • Makeup Air Systems – Supplying conditioned or tempered replacement air to compensate for air exhausted by the hood, maintaining building pressure balance
  • Grease Filters & Capture – Installing and maintaining baffle filters, grease troughs, and collection cups to manage grease buildup and reduce fire risk
  • Fire Suppression Coordination – Working alongside fire suppression contractors to ensure hood systems are compatible with ansul or wet chemical suppression systems
  • Code & Compliance – Adhering to NFPA 96 (Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations), IMC, and local health and fire department requirements
  • Cleaning Access – Designing systems with proper access panels and clearances to allow required periodic grease duct cleaning by certified contractors
Hood venting work requires specialized fabrication skills, strong code knowledge, and close coordination with kitchen equipment suppliers, fire suppression contractors, and health inspectors — as improper installation poses serious fire and health risks.
